Weeks after the TAG Heuer Porsche Formula E team made its debut in the ABB FIA Formula E Championship with a podium at the Diriyah E-Prix, the German power house made an appearance on the red carpet with a special edition Formula E car to celebrate the launch of the latest Star Wars film, the Rise of Skywalker.

Designed by a team of seven designers from Porsche and Star Wars, the project to design an all-new vehicle for the space fantasy franchise played out over the course of six weeks. The result? A one-of-a-kind space ship called the Tri-Wing S-91x Pegasus Starfighter. Catchy, right?

With both teams united, the squad got to work on merging both Lucasfilm and Porsche's design ethos, to produce a vehicle that combines design cues from the automaker as well as iconic vehicles within space franchise. Of course, nods to the marque's new all-electric Taycan and legendary 911 lie within the Pegasus Starfighter.

“Our collaborative project with Star Wars goes perfectly with the launch of the Taycan. The design teams have brought the differing worlds of Porsche and Star Wars together to make a very special gift for the fans of the two brands,” says Kjell Gruner, Head of Marketing at Porsche.

“The basic shape of the cabin, which tapers towards the rear, and a highly distinctive topography from the cockpit flyline to the turbines establish visual parallels with the iconic design of the 911 and the Taycan", says Michael Mauer, Vice President Style Porsche at Porsche AG. "The very compact layout conveys dynamism and agility, lending emphasis to the Porsche design features mentioned.”

Lining up outside the film's premiere in Los Angeles, the Taycan stood side by side with the new Pegasus Starfighter and a special edition 99X Formula E car, wearing a unique Star Wars livery. With the film making its public debut on December 20, 2019, time will tell if the Porsche-designed spaceship managed to make the final cut.

Consisting of 564-pieces, the kit includes both cars, two minifigures in full racing suits and a start line complete with three starting lights for the ultimate home-built street racing circuit. The Speed Champions set comes after the team’s best season yet, which saw Evans clinch the British racing outfit’s first victory in Formula E after a bitter battle on the streets of Rome with DS Techeetah’s Andre Lotterer.

Bearing all the hallmarks of the full-sized Gen2 car, the model Jaguar comes complete with a moveable halo safety device, Panasonic Jaguar Racing livery and a radical rear diffuser.

New for January 2020, LEGO® Speed Champions cars are 25 per cent bigger than ever before, with the I-Pace eTrophy car measuring in at 2” (6cm) high, 6” (16cm) long and 2” (6cm) wide. Priced at £40.00, the kits can be pre-ordered now via the official Formula E store, before deliveries begin on January 1, 2020.
